I drew these for Zankaru so he could use one as his DA icon. They're in two quite different styles -- the first is more realistic but in a simpler, screen-print type style and in shades of yellowish grey, the other is in pure black and white and has exaggerated features but drawn in a rougher, deeper looking style.

Both drawn by hand then scanned, I added colour to the one on the left and edited it slightly using the paintbrush tool, but otherwise they are traditionally drawn.

Quite an interesting juxtaposition between the two styles here, Ross. A few of the proportions, such as the upper row of teeth, aren't quite where they're supposed to be or are in a slightly weird scale, though I suppose that could be artistic liscence/stylistic techniques, hmm?

Which one has incorrect teeth? On the right-hand one I've exaggerated the features deliberately, on the left-hand one it would just be my shoddy artsmanship.

The left. The upper row of teeth is actually a lot narrower than most people think, and the bone structure of the upper jaw that connects near the ear. Also, the cheek bones are a little more pronounced on a real skull than they are here.
Other than that, other details like the eye sockets, nose, lower jaw and the shading on the temples are fine.

If you'd like, I could do a little illustration of the proportions on a real skull, I had to study this kind of anatomy for my A/S art projects (I even sculpted a skull from clay)

Ah, I see. I suppose that's what I get for not using proper references.

That's okay, I'll try making some studies of real skulls and anatomical diagrams, I've been told I should draw more from life (or death, as the case may be).

Interesting contrast, they're both quite effective in their own way.

Thanks. I feel like the one on the left is more "serious" though. Perhaps if I re-drew the more realistic one in the stark black and white contrast and hatch shading it would have a similar effect.
